Before taking any lessons with your instructor you need to have applied for and received a Provisional Driving Licence from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA). Theory Test
Your instructor will advise you on how to approach your theory test. There is a hazard perception component and a multiple choice section which will be taken at your regional theory test centre. Further details can be found at : Directgov

Your first lesson
This first hour lesson is free and will consist of meeting your instructor and vehicle familiarisation - usually done within the Cumbernauld area - with the remainder of the lesson being dependent on whether you are a complete novice or have had previous driving experience.

Training
Your training area will vary depending on your abilities. Most pupils lessons will start in the Cumbernauld area with continual assessment from your instructor ensuring that you progress onto more challenging areas as your confidence and skills improve. Through time you will approach test standard at which point your instructor will introduce mock tests to fine tune your abilities and to acclimatise you to test conditions. During this period your instructor will advise you when to apply for your test.
