Getting Started
Provisional Driving Licence

Before taking any lessons you need to have applied for and received a Provisional Driving Licence from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA). This will require a fee, proof of identity and a colour passport photograph. Full details and requirements for obtaining a Provisional Licence can be found at : Directgov
Your first lesson

This first hour lesson is free and will consist of meeting your instructor and vehicle familiarisation with the remainder of the lesson being dependent on whether you are a complete novice or have had previous driving experience.
Training

Your training area will vary depending on your abilities. Continual assessment will ensure that you progress onto more challenging areas as your confidence and skills improve. Through time you will approach test standard at which point mock tests will be introduced to fine tune your abilities and to acclimatise you to test conditions. During this period your instructor will advise you when to apply for your test.
Theory Test

Your instructor will advise you on how to approach your theory test. There is a hazard perception component and a multiple choice section which will be taken at your regional theory test centre. Further details can be found at : Directgov
Final Lesson

Your final lesson will be a rehearsal for your test with all manoeuvres and road types being covered. You will also get a detailed rundown of exactly what will happen on test day.
